Embrace the Water In Kitsap County

posted by: BEST WESTERN PLUS Silverdale on: February 19, 2014 12:15:23 PM
Here in Kitsap County, we’re surrounded by water and we know it. That’s why when we’re looking for some recreation or adventure, we often look to the water. One of our most popular water activities is, of course, kayaking. And with spring just around the corner, a number of kayaking events are already starting to pop up. Here are a few to keep an eye out for this upcoming month.

WOW: Women on Water Tours and Classes

Grab some girlfriends (or just take yourself!) and head to the Olympic Outdoor Centre for a number of women-only kayaking trips and lessons.

Beginning Sea Kayak Skills Class -
March 16; 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Learn all of the basics required to get into the water and start moving! You’ll learn about the kayak, your equipment, kayaking technique and safety. After learning the basics on land, you’ll head out to the water to see if you get a glimpse of some local marine life.

Intermediate Sea Kayak Skills Class - March 16; 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Already have the basics down? Get a more in-depth understanding of kayaking through training in navigational techniques as well as advanced skills and safety techniques—you’ll even get to practice capsize recovery and rescue.

Poulsbo to Suquamish Tour - March 15; 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

If you’re already comfortable with a paddle, take part in an unforgettable trip along the Kitsap Peninsula Water Trail from Poulsbo to the Suquamish with a professional kayak instructor. You’ll travel through Agate Pass and stop for lunch at a local pizzeria before being shuttled back to Poulsbo.

Birding Trip with George Gerdst

March 23; 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

If you can’t manage to separate yourself from your favorite male counterpart, then take part in this exciting birding adventure by kayak.  An expert birder will provide a quick lesson before setting out to the water to start birding! All ages and experience levels welcome. Just don’t forget your binoculars!

After a wild (and hopefully not too wet) day on the water, dry off in one of our comfortable rooms at the Silverdale Beach Hotel. Offering spectacular views, exceptional service and great amenities, you’ll be sure to rest up at night while you explore during the day!
